Papapa is a dark chestnut, standing 15 hands 3 inches high, with great length, substance, and quality, and was one of the fastest horses that ever raced in New Zealand. At the Christchurch meeting in 1873 he ran second tc the celebrated Lurline in the Canterbury Cup, 2£ miles, in 4m. Bs., carrying 7st. 21bs., as a three-year-old. Lurline, 4yrs., Bst. Wbs.; Tambourini, 9st. 6lbs. ; Malvina, Bst. 9lbs. ; and Templeton, 7st. 21bs., also ran. Papapa won the Christchurch I 'erby in 2m. 44 is. beating Castaway (own brother to Lurline), Templeton, and traitor. At Auckland won the Auckland Turf Club Cup, with 7st. 81 bs., 2 miles, in 3m. 455. Yatterina, 7st. 121b5., second. Parawanui, Hatred, and black Eagle also ran.
