A Lunatic.
J-oseph Pickering, an old man wellknown and lcng-resident in the neighborhood of Makmo, and who has on more than one occasion displayed symptoms of mental derangement, again broke out ou Saturday la*t, and committed certain acts characteristic of none but an insane person. He was violently kicking doors, throwing stones, and severely striking everj' person he Cime in contact with. Things reached such a* pilch that Con- \ stable Price had to be called, who without difficulty conducted Pickering to the police station. He was examined by Drs Johnston and Lighthouse, and yesterday morning was brought before Justices Lethbridge and Sherwill at the R.M. Court. The written evidence of the medical men was handed in and the other witnesses examined in addition to the Constable were Messrs C. Fitzfferbert. W. W. Corpe, and J. Rutherford. Pickering was found to be of an unsound mind, and it was ordered that he be sent to the Lunatic Asylum at Wellingtont He was taken by Con. Priee last nigh, as far as as Halcombe, en route for his destination.
