Manchester Horticultural Society.

The annual general meeting was held ia the Manchester Road Board's office on Tuesday eveuing. There* was a good attendance, most of the enthusiastic members of the society being present. Mr Loudon was voted to the chair. The secretary read the minutes of the last general meeting held 12 montiis ago, $uid they were confirmed. The secretary said he had received a letter from the late secretary, Mr Stevens, regretting his inaoility to attend. The secretary presented the annual balance sheet, which showed a balance in hand of £6 16s 7d. The chairman congratulated the society on its financial position. The balance sheet was adopted. Some discussion took place as to •whether the meeting -held on the 11th -of March last was a meeting of the society or o£ the committee only. It had been entered in the minute book as a committee meeting. The minutes of the meeting were read, and were voted confirmed as those of a general meeting of. the society. A question arose as to whether the society was a regular or only an annual one. Mr Worsfold said it was annual, and terminated on the Ist of September. Mr Lefchbridge was elected as President, and ' Messrs Sherwill, Eoe, and Slacarthur as Vice Presidents. The following gentlemen were appoiuted the general committee: — Messrs G. W. Fowles, T". i. James, C.Lucas, W. B. Nicholas, T. A. Price, E. Eanger, W. Beading, G/Kirton, F. Towler, H. Wort, fold, E v Worsfold, J. 11. Stevens, and R. Loudon. Mr Worsfold. proposed, and Mr Kirton seconded, That Mr E. Goodbehere be reappointed the secretary. Carried. Some conversation ensued as to the society becoming permanent. Mr Worsfold proposed^and Mr Fowles seconded; That the society become a permanent one. ' Mr Kir ton proposed; as an amendment, seconded by Mr Hall,' That the 'secretary tnake the necesoary . enquiries as to what could he done in the matter. The amendment was carried. 'Mr-Kirtionprbposed, and Mr Towler secon^d? That: a rote of thanks be pre--Bented to the officers of the previous year. This. closed the business of the general meeting. , I A meeting of the committee was then held. Present — Messrs Goodbehere (secretary}, Loudon, H. Worsfold, l-i all, Keiding, Kirton; Roe, Price, James, Towler, and Fowles.; Mr Loudon presided. A schedule committee, consisting of th.c IpUpwine gentlemen, was appointed: — Messrsf W r 6rsfold, Towler, Lucas, Hall, Beading, and Stevens.
