Borough Council Vacancies.
A.3 there appears to be some doubt in the minds of many of the ratepayers as to the reason of the retirement of Borough Councillors who have been elected to fill extraordinary vacancies, we quote Clause No 25 of the Municipal Corporations Act Amendment: "A Councillor ulectcd to fill an extraordinary vacancy in the Council of any Borough shall hold office only so lont* as- the Councillor whose scat became so vacant would have held office if such extraordinary vacancy had not occurred." We believe that Cr Fowles is the only one out of the three retiring Councillors to whom this clause applies. The other two, Messrs Loudon and Lewers, retire in accordance with clause 64 of the Municipal Corporations Act, which provides that "ou the second Thursday in September each year, the three Councillors who have been louges: in office without re-election shall go out of office." Ihe tlmv burgesses mentioned will bo eligible for re-election.
