Inspector of Nuisances.

We have already alluded to the necessity which exists for the services of the Inspector of personally or by deputy, to be brought into active operation. As our worthy Borough Councillors have met several times since we first drew attention to this matter, and nothing has been done, the subject not even having been alluded to, we have no hesitation in agnin bringing up the question. Our reason for doing 80 is that for the last few evenings when the thermometer has ranged a little higher during the clay, a most obnoxious smell lias pervaded the atmosphere in certain streets of the Boroug'i, suggestive of t lie most unjleii^ant ideas. Surely there is one Council! >r who will have the courage of his opinions, and nt his seat at the Council table will propose that the bye-law rein ting to fiilhy back premises be put in force without further unnecessary delay. The siiiniimp is getting nearer every hour, and the filth which ought to be removed day by day is being allowed to accumulate in quantities that will make it a work of considerable magnitude to clear it away. If this is left to be done in hot weather the offence will be increased a hundred fold. As we pointed out before and will do again if need be —the ratepayers are put to no expense. All that has lo be done is, warn the person on whose premises the nuisance exists, and he is compelled to remove it

at his own cost
