AUBE3T OF THE MOTHEE. A young woman, named Josephine' Green, nineteen years old, and born at! Nelson, went to Hawera about eighteen ! months ago. She left her situation and< went to reside at the house' 'of 'a midwife' named Hughes,, ia which establishment,! at the end of November, Josophinej Green was delivered of a male child s On the 18th Janaary last the mother, taking' the child with her,' left Hawera suddenly' and came down to' Wanganni. After. proceeding / to various places the ;young| woman, ultimately, found „her .way > toBulls, and entered-'ths service of Mr' 'Nolan, manager of Mr Nathan's store. From ; the time she left 'Hawera to the present day nothing has been seen or"hea ; d of the child, and saspicibn-bf foul play was. of course aroused. Sergt-] Major Goodnll proceeded to Bulls on i Tuesday and arrested Josephine Green. She ,was - taken* down' in- the train on Tuesday night, and yesterday morning was brought up at'the Wanganui Police Court, before Mr Liffiton, J. P., and 1 oharged'with the murder of her infant child, as well ns with the theft of goods from the midwife's. On the application of Inspector James, the prisoner was remanded fo Hawera on Saturday next.
