Trap Accident
On Tuesday, an accident which might have ended in far more serious results, happened to a trap containing two passengers. It seems that Mr Holland, of King street, and Mr Robert Price agreed to try together a young horse, the property of of the latter, with a view to the former becoming lhe purchaser of the animal. An old spring trap belonging to Mr J. C. Thompson was secured, and a drive was successfully made as far as Mr Cooper's residence on Awahuri road. Oa the return journey the animal displayed considerable nervousness, and after passing over the Makino bridge in Kiuiboltoo road, bolted, and the united efforts of the two passengers were unequal to the task of pulling him in. Ou reaching Warwick street he was turned down towards the sale yards, with the view of bringing him to a halt amongst the flax. The trap went into a ditch and the Jwheel came into contact with the bank with such force that both, occupants of the vehicle were pitched violently out. The wheel passed over Mr Holland, and he received such severe bruises as necessitate' l bis having to be conveyed home and take his bed. Mr Price was not hurt so much, but was rather badly knocked about. The horse was involuntarily brought to a stand at a fence in Fergusson street, and beyond what we have recorded no damage was done.
