Temperance Entertainment.

The public entertainment given in the School honse on Thursday evening under the auspices of the Feilding Blue Ribbon and Good .Templar organizations passed off very successfully. The building was densely crowded, and great enthusiasm prevailed. The clergymen present were the Revs H. M. Murray, J, Jones, and J. (lover. The first-mentioned presided, and opened the proceedings with a few appropriate remarks, after which Mr Patten delivered the first portion of his illustrated lecture, entilled " Alcohol and its properties." He performed a number of interesting chemical experiments by the aid of the test tube and spirit lamp, and appealed for the correctness of his demonstrations and remarks thereoa to Dr Lightbourne, who was on the platform. The experiments were evidently very pleasing to the audience. After some sinking Mr Patten gave the second part of his lecture entitled "The effects of alcohol on the system," the illustrations being given on the screen by the aid of the optical lantern. These were very numerous and interesting, and Mr Patten's able - address was listened to with great attention and warmly applauded. Mr Lucas proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Patten. This was* seconded by Rev J. Clover, and carried with acclamation. \ similar vote of I thanks was given to the chairman, on the motion of Mr Hammond, seconded by *Dr Lightbourne. 'A vote of thanks to the School Committee for the use of the building was passed. A good number of young persons remained after the meeting, and donned the blue ribbon.
