Walker and Skerman. , The following correspondence was also read: — Mr VlcCulloch, clerk of the Manawatti Council, stating that Wednesday, the 15th inst., had been fixed for the date of the joint meeting of the two County Councils for adjustment of accounts. From A. L. Stokes, of Palmerston, applying for a slaughter house license on Stoney Creek road. Petition from settlers on Stoney Creek road, "asking the Council to take susftt steps as will render a Gore^nment grant available for putting the road into a proper state for traffic.: ye ; From the Colonial office, calling attention to the fact that inanf County Council seals are not in accord* ance with section 10 of Uie Counties Act, and advising the Council to adopt a proper seal. From the Manawatu Standard, soliciting a share of advertising. From the Clerk of the Manawatu County, pay sheet an 1 vouchers, and a registered packet of tenders. The Chairman; reported his visit to Foxton retire adjustment of accounts as between the two Counties, and also his interview in Wellington with the Horn, W.. 'Johnston re the proportion of th* grants under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, which would be due to the Oroua County. He also read the; : amounts respectively that had been ap- . plied for under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, and. the amounts granted. In one case the poll had not yet been taken, which the; Chairman pointed out was necessary to be done within three months from the time that the grants were provisionally made. '. A long conversation ensued asyto the work to be done on FitzVierbertj road I ; west, and the matter of accepting a tender or not for the work. Cr Douglas thought it useless to discuss thd question on the face of a notice ■ of a motion about to be brought forward , for the abolition of the Counties Act within the County. Cr Sly said the Council had /already met for the special purpose of closing up the Council, and thought they should not incur liabilities by entering into contracts. He then moved and Cr Skerman seconded that nO decision as to; tenders be made until the next meeting. < < Cr Engels moved and Cr [Walker seconded the following amendment, That the tender for No. 1 contract, Fitzherbert. road, be accepted conditionally to arrangement being effected with the . Majpawatu County Council and, the Government' with regard to . the- taking --over jof the liabilities contracted for main roads situate in the Oroua County. Cr Douglas opposed the amendment. ; Crs Mcßeth and : Walker supported the. amendment. The Chairman proposed the adjournment of the debate until after Cr Bailey's motion for abolition had -been discussed. Chairman read over a large number of items in the Various accounts of the Ridings of the -two Counties which would have to be discussed at the meeting on Wednesday for the ad j ustment of : accounts.
