Sculling Championship.
On. the Ist of June Edward ICnnlan, of Toronto, and John A. Kennedy, of Portland, rowed a match at Point of Pines, Bostrni. for £500 and the championship of the world. Although Kennedy was well supported by his iVicnds, belting ruled at 5 to 1 on ■--Haul ah. so much money was there behind liiii!. The weather was fine, arid the -waler in : ;rood condilion for rowing, being glassy calm. -The scullers got to their stakeboals about 6.30 p.m. At the start Kennedy drew away, and by dint -of successife'spuris fairly held, the champion. A* pool race was witnessed for the next 400 yards, but ;Keanedy, who ]j a d been making leno'rmbus, exertion s. then fell to pieces, and the Canadian, rowing in his well-'icnown even style, shot to the front. KbR-iii/ w/'ll within himself Hanlan drew ahead, wiiiii- Kennedy's steering became erratic from exhaustion. All interest in the race had now died out, and Hanlan won rery easily by fifteen lengths.
