Feilding State School.

. o Report of committee appointed to enquire into the matter of the Inspector's Report upon the leaching of Mrs Browne, assistant mistress atthe Feilding School: t " Your Committee visited the school on Friday, 27th inst., accompanied by the Chairman and four members of the Com- . mittee. After seeing tho Head Master in his room, we proceeded to the infant's room under Mrs Br'-wne, and remained there nearly two hours, during which time we carefully observed her method of teaching in the various lessons of the afternoon, and particutar'y those in ' arithmetic, watching the children working on tlieir slates the sums stated on the black board. We came to the conclusion ■ that we have no reason to believe that Mrs Browne is not competent to teach the children entrusted to her care, and would recommend the Board to withdraw ' the application forwarded to the Inspec-tor-General for an enquiry into her quali--1 fications. But we must refer to the manner in which Mrs Browne taught multiplication at. the time of the Inspec--1 tor's vi:-it, as being calculated to mislead 1 an ordinary visitor to the school, and • might bo misleading to the children if continued, but at the same time we con sider that the Inspector, not being an ordinary visitor, should have made it his ; business to have thoroughly understood ' Mrs Browne's method before laying before the Board a report so damaging to her professional reputation. We teuder our thanks to the Feilding Committee for their attention to us on our visit."
