Bulls, July 24. James Matheson, known as one-armed i Jemmey, for many years in the employ of Mr J. Bull died this morning of an apopletic fit, at James Bull's farm. Mr John McHardy, a very respected resident of Rangitikei and the Hutt, died last evening after a painful illness. Colonel Gorton still remains in a precarious state. . Patea, This Day. Two men, Petersen and C ark, were drowned off the bar last night. They had been fishine, and it is supposed that in attempting to cross the bar the boat capsized. One of the men hung on to the boat for a long time, but notliing could be done to save him. The boat came ashore this morning, and part of the men's clothing, but the bodies have not been recovered. Dunedin, This Day. A man named James Winyard. employed at the Pier Hotel, was found dead in his bed this morning.
