Feilding Borough Council.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Council was held at the Council Cbiimber on Thursday evening. Present — Crs Sherwill, Letters, Fowles, Worsfold, Rutherford, and Thompson. In the absence of the Mayor Cr Sherwill was roted to the chair. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. The following tenders for lighting the Borough lamps, finding oil, Ac, were then opened : — J. Morris, £2 30s per month for 12 months; E. Turner, 12s per week for 12 months. Some conversation followed on the matter, and the general opinion of the Council was that the tenders were excessive, the lower of the two tenders being 10s per month more than is now being paid to one of the tenderers as a temporary arrangement, and which was thought to be sufficient. It was then Resolved, That the tenders for lighting thf> street lamps be rejected as exces-' sive. Cr Lowers suggested thatjthe matter might be left with the Town Clerk for the present to make some temporary arrangement until some satisfactory permanent one could be made, and a resolution to that effect was then passed. Several alterations of the proposed form of debenture for the Borough were then discussed in a conversational way, but the general opinion was that it was not desirable to enter fully into the matter, and that a special meeting should be held for the purpose. It was then resolved. That the consideration of alteration in form of specimen debenture be held over until next meeting. of the Council, to be held on Thursday, 26th July, at 8 p.m. Resolved, That the Town Clerk be empowered to draw a cheque of £5 for petty cash. The Council then adjourned.
