More Annexation.
The Standard's correspondent at Sierra Leone, writing on March 24th, says:—"Special instructions have been received by Governor Havelock, from the Earl of Derby, authorising the. annexation of a considerable tract of j territory, extending from British Sherbro to within a few miles of the Republic of Liberia. The Queen's proclamation has been issued, and the ceded country includes half a mile inland aud all sandbanks, islands, and hanks of rivers formerly under the rule of king? and chiels of the Gil! - nas, Dibbeah, Sulymah, Sai'ja Naraarrah, and Gibeuiahs. '1 hi* secures to the British the entire control of the trade of tbat part ofthe coa;t, and will prevent the under-sapping ol British influence in that quarter, as has been so successfully accomplished by the French to the north of Sierra Leone. 'J he trade of the Colony has been at a deadlock for some time, and the revenue diminishing, and it is confidently expected that this extension of the settlement will lead to satisfactory results, as the adjacent country is rich in African produce."
