Professor Sample.
♦ On Thursday last we had the pleasure of attending the class of Professor Sample, which was held in Morphy's Livery Stables. Twenty-six scholars were present, and received wluable consideration for their fees. Space, and the necessary secrecy, will prevent us giving a detailed account of the mode of horse taming imparted by the Professor. Suffice it to . say that he had horses to operate upon that were well educated in every con- ; ceivable vice that a horse ran possibly | learn. After these had been reduced to l the most abject submission, a green colt, A rising three years, was brought v under L 4 the influence " and in less than half an hour Mr Cottrell, its owner, was seated < triumphantly on its back. The Professor only uses such means as are within the reach of everyone ; there is not eyen a suspicion of harshness or cruelty, the animal being made, in an early part of his lesson, to thoroughly understand that he had a master. As the lesson proceeded the Professor leetnred and explained. He gave practical illustrations of his method, so that his bearers hid no possible doubt as to the meaning he .* desired to convey to them, lopsftffnt any flagging of interest, amusing anecdotes, bearing upon the subject, were freely interspersed throughout the lecture and were much appreciated. Under the system of Professor Sample, any person - of ordinary strength and intelligence can break, handle, and ride the wildest colt, can cure the shyest of horses and make it face any thing, while sounds of the most hideous would be listened to without the slightest signs pf timidity on tbe part of the steed. We consider the Pro- ' feasor to be the best friend to the horse that has ever visited How Zealand.
