It has been ascertained that the number of lives lost by the capsize at the Clyde was much under-estimated and it is now known that 105 were carried down by the yessel and drowned. The divers who have examined the vessel as she now lies under water, report that the engine-room is crammed with corpses. The cargo of 7,840 carcasses of mutton, shipped per the steamer Fenstanton, is reported to be in good condition. Owing to Mr Parnell's further promises, and the resuit of the Monaghan election, the Government Press express an opinion that the Liberals have no chance of election in Ireland. Fricon, French ambassador to ( hina, with a view to the settlement of the conflicting claims of France and China in Annum, has left Shanghae, having been unable to come to any satisfactory agreement with M. Fricon. The latter, it is understood, has been informed that any further parleying can only take place »t Pekin.
