Our Volunteers.
The quarterly Government inspection parade of the Manchester Rifle Volunteers took place in the Town Hall on Thursday evening. About 40 members put in an appearance, and these •were put through a couple of hours' of very sharp exercise by Major Stapp, assisted by Sergeant-Instructor Henry. At the close of the parade the Major t 'Id the men he was not given to flattery, but he could not help speaking a word of praise as to the manner in which they had gone through their drill. In drilling men he was always in earnest himself, and expected them to be the same, and the attention they had that night paid him, together with the absence of lightness and trifling manifested by them, had afforded him much pleasure. The corps then marched round the town, headed for the first time by its brass band, which played several airs in a verj creditable manner. Halting on the Square, the men were dismissed, and . Lieut Blackmore called for three cheers for the band, which were heartily given by the members of the corps and the ' assembled crowd. The band then played another selection, and concluded with the ' National Anthem.
