Great Fire at Dunedin.

A new railway goods shed was totally destroyed by fire on Tnesday night last. The building was 450 feet long, and cost £3,000. It contained 14 truck loads of goods from the Tarawera and other vessels, and one importer of jewellery had goods to the value of £5,000. None of tbe contents were saved. A large number of leading importers are losers, as little or nothing was insured. Nothing is yet known of the origin of the fire.

[PBE UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, This Day. Later particulars to hand state that the fire burned fiercely until midnight, and that the Harbor Board's shed near the wharf was in great danger, but which, fortunately, was covered with iron. Owing to scarcity of water the Fire Brigade could do but little and their efforts were futile, and the whole length of the building was a sea of flame 150 yards long. The shed was filled with merchandise of all descriptions. It is believed about £5,000 will cover insurance risks, and that the importers' losses will be about £2,500. The loss of the consignees of which there are many, will be very heavy indeed, as few appear to have had any insurances on their goods. No further knowledge has been gained as to the origin of the fire, and it is probable an enquiry will be ordered by the Minister for Public Works.
