Feilding State School. EXTRAORDINARY ACTION" OF THE BOARD.

At the usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board on Tuesday last, the resolution of the Feilding School Committee, passed at its last monthly meeting, recommending certain changes in the teaching staff, was dealt with in the following extraordinary manner :—

Feilding-. — A letter was receive 1 from the School Committee euclosino a resolution passed In favour of the removal of Mrs Dowlin»; and Miss Goodison, and the appointment of Mrs Bn>wn in the place of the former, and a certificated master in the place oi the latter. — A petition was also received from the parents of 77 children attending 1 the school, protesting against the resolution of the Conimitee and expressing entire approval of the way in which the teachers had }>er<ormed their duties.— lnspector Foulis spoke very highly of Mrs Dowling's efficiency, and recommended that no change be made till after the next annual examination. — The Board decided not to make any change in the staff as regards Mrs Dowling and Miss Goodison for the present. — With regard to Mrs Brown, the Inspector reported most unfavourably as to her teaching power an<i knowledge, and it was determined to recommend to the Committee that she receive three months* notice of dismissal, and supply her place with a more competent teacher, — Mr Carson considered that as the Inspector's last report cast a slur upon the school, the Committue wore quite justified in asking ior a reorganisation of the teaching staff. — Mr Baker hoped that for the future the Inspector, in bringing charges against a school, would use less ambiguous language and be more specific — As Mrs Brown was the holder ol a Government certificate, it was resolved, on the motion of bir W. Fox, that the Inspector supply particulars of his statements regarding her, and that the attention of the Minister of Education be drawn to them, and a copy of such particulars be sent to the School Committee.
