The Borough Loan.
TO THE EDITOB OP THE STAB. Sib, — At the meeting of ratepayers held in the Town Hall, on Saturday evening last, to consider the desirableness of raising a loan of £6000 for the Borough* of Feilding, it was mentioned by a Councillor that Hobson-street, from the railway line to Denbigh-street, past Mr Daw's residence, was already made. I ' admit that a portion of this street, (from' Denbigh-street westwards, say 4 chains), has been made. But by whom was it done P Mr Daw obtained permission from the Manchester Road Board, and, at his own expense, has formed that part of the street. The remainder of the street, to the railway line, is now in » beastly state — almost impassable. I think it a great pity the attention of the Council was not drawn to this fact previous to the schedule of works being ad- . opted. It is very inconvenient for persons who wish to engage the services of Mr Daw to go to his house by way of . Denbigh-street ; and it is almost imposto go by way of Hobson-street without getting covered with mud nearly up to the knees. The part of the road I allude to is about] five chains in extent. I think it could be made for £30, and perhaps less. It should be attended to at once. Now, Ido not think it exactly right to tax property-holders in that street the same as those who have, or are likely to have, good roads to their property. There is not much prospect at present of that part of Hobson-street being made, as it is not mentioned in the schedule of works ; but surely the Council can spare the small sum of £30 for such a necessary work. It appears to me that the only reason this street was not included in the schedule was owing to the fact that several Councillors were laboring under the delusion that the street was m_.de. — I am, etc., Ratepatbb.
