Butter and Cheese Factory.
• <« THE EDITOR OF THE FEILDING STAE. Sir, — Kindly allow me through your columns, to say that the benefits to be derived from an establishment of the above description, started with sufficient capital and properly conducted, would be very great, not only to the farmers around Feilding, but also to the business men and property holders ; not only to those, but to stock owners and dealers. Dairy farms will, at 4d a gallon (the proposed price), be able to obtain from £15 to £17 per cow. This they will receive in cash instead of having to take out the greater part in stores. They will, by sending their milk to the factory save their wives an immense amount of labor, and will, as a consequence, get their children and houses better looked after. They will have almost a certain income to depend upon, will know the length of their pockets, and will bo able to live within theii means. They will obtain cash for their produce, and will be able to pay cash for their requirements Many of them will prefer selling all their milk to rearing calves. This will tell in course of time on the price of grown cattle, dairy stock will at once be in demand and promising heifers will command a good price. Settlers obtaining a firstclass return from their farms will become less anxious to part with them, and the value of laud in the district will be enhanced, and holdings will be kept in better order. Tubs, casks, vats, milk pans, cans, &c, will be required, and I see no reason why they should not be for the most part made by our local tradesmen. I should like to see the meeting on Monday next well attended, and think that all who may be either directly or indirectly bencfitted by the proposal, should come to the place of meeting and discuss the merits and demerits of the undertaking. — I am, &c, Settleb.
