The judgment of the Conrt in the Monarch case is, that the mishap w.-is not caused by default of any person, but by dangers and accidents of the sea. It appeared due cave had been taken. The accident occurred through the unexpected setting in of heavy rollers. Auckland, This Day. A communication has been received stating that the wife of the late Mr Edward Costley, who left £130,000 to Auckland charities, is alive in Christchurch. This will not affect the bequests. Wellington, This Day. The following tenders were received for the Awapurua bridge contract Manawatu River, Wellington-Napier Railway : — Accepted ; H McKenzie and < 0., Dnnedin, £14,824.
