THE INQUEST.
A Coroner's inquest was, held* this morning, before D. rt lf , Macarthur, Esjd., in Mr Lyne's store, DenbighrstreeJLon the body of William "Thomas :i#ellejf. '7 After the jury had Tiewed the body William Salisbury deposed: Was a carpenter residing in Feilding; -deceased was his adopted son; has been i living with him for 8 years ; last saw deceased alive about three o'clock yesterday ; had no instructions to mount the horsey assisted deceased to mount the horse, for a ride for pleasure; deceased persuaded him to allow him to go out; he could ride very well, arid rode often;" had no reason to suppose -the- horse to 'be vicious; deceased rode with his ieetiih. the leather ; , the , spring -holding: ,thp leather was up when the deceased rode away. . . Mary Ellen James, aged 12 years,,d£posed to finding the body of deceased in Cam bden-street; opposite Mr '.Benj amin's house; deceased, was. not urging the horse, he was ;tryingtp pntt it^.up; did not see the. horse start to boVt. Louisa Travena, aged' 15, deposed.: About 3.30 p.m. yesterday lutes standing by the window, in her father's .hbu.se.); saw a horse gallop by with a. boy with his leg in .the .stirrup, and his.^ead - dragging -on the ground ; he was en the right side of the horse ;, died, in' jfcbmit two minutes after witness 'gdt'ttp ;t t6) Him. Dr Johnston deposed : Examined the body of the deceased ; the injury to the brain was the cause of death, although there was another injury to the pelvic bones which would have been fatal; should say that the boy. had .been repeatedly kicked when being dragged, judging by the wounds inflicted. ■ • The jury returned a verdict oIE "Accidental Death." . A rider was added drawing attention to the dangerous practice, of boys riding with their feet through the stirrup leathors. .
