Execution of a Woman.
* At Maidston gaol, at nine on Tuesday morning, SOth January, Lousia Taylor was hanged for the murder of Mrs Tregillis, by poison, at Plumstead. Since her comdemnation the unhappy woman has been greatly agitated, but is stated to have made no reference to her crime. She passed a fairly quiet night, and on Tuesday morning exhibited extraordinary firmness She walked steadity to the scaffold, but as Marwood fixed the rope, she swayed and would have fallen but for two warders who held her up. Her last words were, " Lord, receive my spirit," Death appeared almost instantaneous. Since her condemnation the culprit has had but one visitor — the gentleman who conducted her defence — she having apparently neither relations nor friends.
