Fatal Accident at Wellington.
[pee united press association.] Wellington, This Day. A fatal accident occurred to-day at the bonded store of Messrs W. and G, Tnrabull, and Co., resulting in the death of one man and serious injury to another. Two storemen, named Phillip Latham and Edwin Bryant, were engaged taking up cases of spirits and wine to the top floor by means of an hydraulic lift. They had only a light weight on, and botb were ruling on the top of the cases, when within a few feet of the top floor the chain of the lift snapped. Latham was picked up insensible, and expired in a moment or two. Both his legs below the knees were absolutely crushed. The other man. Bryant, received a serious shock to spinal cord, and has been sent to the hospital. Latham is thought to have attempted to jump from the lift, and was thus crushed between the floor and the outer wood-work of the lift. He had been with the firm for 5^ years. Bryant was only engaged yesterday.
