Road Construction.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE FEILDING S~AR. Sir,—Would you do me the favor of publishing this for the benefit of all concerned. The Boad Boards bave got a most gigantic proposal on foot of borrowing from the Government the sum of £23,000 for road construction in the Manchester District, and the rate is 1 2-od in the £. to be slrm-k for the payment of piiuciple and interest. Who can grumble at this? Well, sir, there are some that w ill, and are now doing so, but sir, they have (to use a vulgarism) got the wrong bull by the horns. I think it a wise action on the part of the board, and one which every one ought to be thankful for, but there is one thing tbat I don't agree with them in : I was asking if there was not going to be a public meeting called to see whatth.? ratepayers thought about it, but judge of my surprise when I heard nol. Well, the board has made the proposal. They have advertised their st-heme. May I ask who pays for it? Lett-lie same that pays for that pay for the advertising of a meeting, which will, I presume, suit the ratepayers generally. The board having gone so far as they have ought not to slop half way aud jeopardise Llie whole affair. Hoping the board will accede to calling the meeting, 1 am, &c, H. W. Makino, April 20.
