[by electric telegraph. — copvbioht.l better's telegamrs. London. April 20. In the House of Commons to-day the Hon. Evelyn Ashley, in reply to a question, stated that no step would be taken by the Imperial Government in regard to the annexation of New Guinea pending the receipt of a despatch from Sir A. Kennedy on the subject. A box containing gunpowder has been discovered at the back of the Times office. It is believed that it was intended to blow up the building, but no clue to the projected outrage has yet been discovered. St. Petebsbtjbg, April 19. The trial of the Nihilists who were recently arrested was concluded to-day, and resulted in the conviction of eighteen i prisoners. Sentence of death was passed / upon six, and penal servitude for life upon the remaining twelve. Becieved April 21. 12.20 p.m.! Quebec, April 20. A fire broke out to-day in the Provincial Parliament House of this city, and spread with such rapidity that the whole of the building was gutted before the flames could be got under. The origin of the fire is so far unknown.
