A TRACTION ENGINE FOR PARAWANUI.

Considerable excitement was oansed in Bulls yesterday by the arrival of a traction engine, just imported by Mr A. Brookie, of Parawanui. We believe this is the first engine of its kind imported into the colony. It was landed at the port of Rangitikei by the steamer Lyttelton, on Saturday last, into which it had oeen transhipped from the steamer Brit, ish King, by which it was imported to tbe colony from England a fortnight ago. The engine and machinery for threshing is from the manufactory of Messrs Hornby and Son. It weighs eight tons 15 cwt. ; registered eight horse power, and will travel eight miles per hour on the level. The cost of the whole engine and accompanying machinery was abont £1,000. We understand that Mr Brookie has full work for it as a number, of farmers have delayed threshing nntil the arrival of this engine. We hope Mr Brookie's venture will meet the success it deserves.
