The Synod 'to-day relaxed the rules of I (the Board of Theological Studies so far as 'to permit .candidates in grade four to |pass the grade in two examinations in successive years. Dean Jacobs opened the discussion on the deceased wife's sister ana-mage question, contending that, by the 'canons of the Church, and the example of the primitive Church, such onawriages were sinful. His speech was interrupted by the aftci-aoon's pdjourn■inent. Later. The Synod -to -night passed a foi'll making :all licensed clergy-men electors of clerical •representatives to "the Synod. The same •bill also provides for the election of two months before the -meeting of the Synod, instead c-£ about *ix months hitherto. It also passed a (resolution providing for the distribution ior signature of a petition for an Act in (favour of denominational schools and Bible reading in State schools. The rest •of the evening was spent in discussing tthe Bishop of Waiapu's Bill for settling •differences between pastors and people.
