[PEB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.J Wellington, This Day. The Railway Commission for the purpose of inquiring and reporting respecting the feasibility of the proposed direct railway from Christchurch to the West Coast of the Middle Island, has now i been appointed, and will consist of the I following gentlemen : — Messrs Wilson, ! M.H.R. for Foxton, Mr Napier Bell, engineer, of Christchurch, and Captain Kussell, of Hastings, formerly M.H.R. for Napier. The commission will commence work in all probability about a week hence, that being about the time when Mr Bell will be at liberty to act. Mr Bryce left Auckland to-day on his way to Taranaki though the King country. After which Mr Bryce will proceed to Wanganui, remaining there a few days, after which he visits Parihaka and the neighbouring settlements, returning to Wellington about the end of the present month. A supplementary Gazette issued tonight further prorogues Parliament until the 15th of May next. A man named Jeremiah Murphy is missing. He came out to the colony as a clergyman of the Church of England, and on being sent by the Bishop of WelI lingfcon to take duty at Palmerston North Ihe arrived there inebriated. Since then he appears to have been acting kitchenman at two on three hotels in Wellington, and lately he threatened to drown himself. The Agent-General cables nnder date London 10th, the departure of the steamer British Queen, for Wellington, with 295 emigrants, and the ship Forfarshire for Port Chalmers, with 287 emigrants ; and that the Wexford, which was dismasted in the Bay of Biscay, will probably re-embark her passengers and leave for Wellington on the 25th inst. Alexandba, This Day. Mr Bryte and party arrived here last night, but will not leave for Taranaki for some days. Wetere is expected to-mor-row with a large number of men from Mokau to act as an escort. The European party will number twelve. The rivers are very hieh and the Waipa bridge is in great danger and is expected to go.
