THE BRIDGE AT AORANGI.
Some weeks ago we intimated that the Minister of Public Works had promised that a foot bridge would be attached to the railway bridge over the Oroua River, at Aorangi. It appears that the Minister made the promise only to gain time, because nothing has yet been done towards its fulfilment, and the settlers on the south side of the river are still as far off as ever from having a safe means of crossing the river provided them. Persons arc very properly prohibited by the railway authorities from using the railway bridge, keeping in view the recent fatal accident on the bridge at Waipawa, and with a desire to prevent similar occurrences. We think that, pending the erection of a foot bridge, the railway authorities might make some arrangements to meet the convenience of tlie residents at and nenr Aorangi, by allowing the trains to stop regularly at least once each way per diem. By this means a great deal of dissatisfaction and inconvenience would be done away with at no cost whatever.
