Thompson, (chairman), Worsfold, Murray, Towler and Foster, (secretary.) The minutes of the previous meeting-. were read and confirmed. .\ letter was reai from the Education Board re Education Act and ventillating and painting school, and stating that tenders were in for the latter work. Mr Dowling's report was received. The report showed that the average attendance of the past quarter was--^ Boys, 92 ; Girls, 101. Total, 193. Average number on the roll : Boys, 133 ; Girls, 144. Some repairs to the school and teacher's residence were also mentioned in the report. Mr Worsfold said he was not satisfied with the attendance of children at school. He thought the compulsory clause of the Education Act '.sbould be put into force. Rev Murray considered that children required food for their mind as well as for their body. If notice was given to parents that the Compulsory Act would be enforced, he thought that prosecution would be unnecessaiy. The Secretary was of opinion that if the compulsory clause was put into force a larger school would be required. The present one was, he said, hardly largt> enough to accommodate the children that now attended. Ultimately Mr Worsfold gave notice of motion that, at next meeting, the compulsory clause of the Education Act be put in force in the school district of Feilding. l Resolved, That the down pipe be repaired, as suggested in teacher's report. Resolved, Tbat Mr Watts give an estimate of the cost of work to be done at teacher's residence. Resolved, That the Chairman order a supply of firewood for school use. . Resolved, That the Chairman write to Education Board, asking for a design of work for hanging the bell. A long discussion ensued as to the desirableness of using the " Temperance Lesson Book" in school. Th* matter was left for consideration at next meeting of the committee. The meeting then adjourned.
