RAILWAY AND TEMPERANCE PICNICS.

♦ The Feilding Good Templars and Rechabites held a picnic on the Sports Ground on Good Friday, which was well attended. Various games were indulged in, dancing on the green forming one of the amusements. There were the usual concomitants of tea and other refreshments. All appeared to heartily enjoy themselves. We should mention that the Makino band, under the leadership of Mr John Curreen, added greatly to the liveliness of the proceedings' The railway picnic at Westoe on Good Friday, of the numerous railway employes, their wives and families, was a decided success. Two special trains, one from Foxton and one from Waverley, picked up the various parties at the res. pective stations along the line, until the carriages were full of a delighted and happy looking throng. The weather was splendid and the working committee deserve every credit for the su< c sul arrangements made on the ground to carry out the programme of the spo t . Sir Wm. Fox not only placed his grounds at the disposal of his visitors, but materially assisted by an abundant supply of fresh milk. Mr Retemeger, manager for Sir William, lent his assistance in adding to the success of the affair. There were .races for married ladies, single .ladies, Maori ladies, engine drivers, firemen, Btati6nma»terß, and an old man's race, putting the stone, quoits, and a number of other ganies. Mr Rotheram, the District Manager, Was the moving spirit of the day, and by his example and exertions materially added to the pleasure of all present.
