Dudley, the Clerk, had failed to account for certain sums of money received by him, also that the renfc book was missing, and that an important page had been torn out of another book. The committee appointed to instruct a solicitor to proceed against Dudley for deficiencies, stated that Dudley was formerly Town Clerk at Kaiapoi, and legal proceedings are pending against him by the J own Council, for missing books. Ac. Yesterday Major Atkinson informed the Chairman of theßailway League that a Commission has been appointed to report upon the best route for a railway for here and West Coast. H- E. Purching, chemist, of Kaiapoi, has been missing for several days. Search parties who have been out can find no traces of him.
