An inquest was held yesterday concerning the late fire at the Temperance Boarding House, but nothing startling came out, and a verdict was returned that the fire was accidental. Hop picking is now nearly completed. The total acreage in the Nelson district under hops is 587 acres. Wellington, This Day. The following tenders have been received for the Opaki contract (formation and permanent way), on the WellingtoniNapier railway. Accepted — Omally and Pepperel, Christchurch, £14,793; declined — Jay and Haynes, Hawera, £16.651: Shields and Cleary, Wellington, £18,987 ; Martin Danaher. Auckland, £19,750 ; Reese and Dawson, Masterton, £20,642 ; Parker and Burke, Masterton, £22,461; T. P. Girdwood, Masterton, £26,448. The Wellington- VTanawatu Railway Company have called for tenders for another section of the WellingtonFoxton Railway, of three miles and fiftyfive chains in extent. Chbistchubch, This Day. Major Atkinson addressed a crowded meeting last night. 500 people were present. _________
