A SURVEYOR STOPPED [peb united pbess association.] Auckland, This Day. C, W. Hursthouse, of the Public Works Department, who left Alexandra on VI onday for the purpose of making a flying survey of the railway route to Taranaki, returned yesterday, the Natives refusing to allow him to proceed. Hursthouse, on arriving at JOtorohanga, he was stopped by Aporo Taratutu. here were also other chiefs and fifty Natives present. Hursthouse argued for some time, but his horse's head was turned round and he was ordered to return to Alexandra, and wait till Tawhiao returns. On crossing the bridge at Alexandra, Hursthouse was warned not to proceed. The common report is that if Mr Bryce endeavored to go through he will be stopped at the bridge.
