ODD FELLOWS LODGE.
A new lodge of the Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F., was organised in the Good Templars' Hall, Feilding, on Tuesday, and was named the Loyal Manchester Lodge. Sixteen new members were initiated. The following officers were elected : — Bro. Carthew, N.G- ; Bro. Kirton, V.G. ; Bro. W. D. Nicholas, G.M. ; Bro. T. W. K Foster, Permanent Secretary; Bro. W. Heald, Elective Secretary; Bro. Eade, R.S. to the N.G. ; Bro. J. Smith, L.S. to the N.G. ; Bro. Nix, Warden ; Bro. W. H Foster, R.S. to the V.G : Bro. E. Pawson, L.S. to the V.G. ; Bro. J. H. Weatherley, Guardian. The following officers from Wanganui were present :— Bro. Garner, P.G.M. ; Bro. Benefield, G.M. ; Bro. Bamber. P.P.G.M.; and Bro. Cannell, P.P.G. A . Wellington was represented by Bro. Hale, ! P.G. of the Antipodean, and Bro. Ander- I son af the Brittama lodge. From Palmerston there were the following officers and brethren : — Bros. Woods, P.G. ; Scott, P.G. ; Relf, N.G ; Cowper, V.G ; Mowlem, P.S. ; R. Henderson, Warden. Bros. Mole, Haines, Relf, Healey, Kerslake, Boiesen, Mortensen, Campbell, C. Morris, H. Morris, Dillon, Sheerin, E. Smith, Christensen. Brother Bamher, P.P.G.M. of the Wanganui district initiated the new members, and installed the officers, assisted by Bro. Garuer, P.G.M. The Banquet. The ceremony being over the company (40 in number) adjourned to Hastie's Hotel, where a capital spread was provided, which for quantity, quality, and variety left nothing to be desired. Bro. Bamber, P.P.G.M., occupied the chair, and Bro. Garner, P.G. VI ., the vice chair. On the tables being cleared the chairman gave the usual loyal toasts of " Her Majesty the Queen," and " The Prince of Wales and the Royal Family," which were duly honored. Song : " The Friar of Orders Grey."— Bro. Nicholas. Bro. Foster proposed the toast of "The Manchester Unity and District Officers." The chairman in responding said it gave himself and all the- district officers great pleasure in being present, and assured the members of the new lodge that they might always rely upon their encour agement and assistance. Song: "The Englishman, Scotchman, and Irishman."— J. W. Eade. The chairman next proposed " Success to the Loyal Manchester Lodge." He said there was every prospect of this new lodge being succesful, and he felt sure it ; would soon be one fit to be proud of. In such a district as this Oddfellowship was certain to prosper. He asked them to drink this toast right heartily. Bro. Carthew responded. Song : " Joe Muggins."— Bio. W. H. Foster. Bro. Kirton, V.G., proposed "The health of the visiting Brethren," and assured them that the Loyal Manchester Lodge would always be glad to see them, and extend to them that hospitality which he was sure would always he a trait in its character. Bro. Woods, P.G.M, responded, and said the visitors would always be pleased to visit the new lodge, and to see the members of it at Palmerston. He congratulated the lodge on securing the services of Bro. Foster as 'secretary. Song : "Patrick mind the baby." — Bro. Hale, of Palmerston. Bro. Curtis proposed the toast of "The Kindred Societies." Bro. T. W. K. Foster responded on behalf of the Foresters. Bro. Smith responded for the Good Templars, and said he believed a number of Templars would join the Oddfellows also. Song: "My Mother's Parting Gift." —Bro. T. W. K. Foster. Bro. Carthew, N.G., proposed "The Press," coupled with the name of the Feilding Stab, to which, as representing the district, he paid a high compliment. Bro. Kir ton briefly responded. Song : " t'aoes I see in my dreams." — Vice chairman. Bro. Seaton proposed the health of " The Host and Hostess," and alluded to the very excellent provision which had that evening been made for the company's enjoyment. Mr Hastie returned thanks with some suitable remarks. Songs by P G.M. Bro. Scott, " When I am far away from home," by Messrs E. Goodbehere, " The Judge's song," and by W. Reading, Power's "Nonsense song," followed, all being well rendered. An amusing recitation by Bro. Eade, and other songs by several brothers brought a pleasant evening to a close We should mention that the instrumental music was ably given by Bro. Seaton on the pianoforte. »msmm**m**m*mmm**mm
