CORRESPONDENCE.
BATTLE-AXE AGAIN TO THE FRAY.
to tub editor or thi #»ldin« stab. Sib, — Tour correspondent M Pro Bono Publico," replying to my former letter, evidently "flurries his milk* in a mostalarming fashion. It is not^iy intention to draw comparisons between the relative merits of what your ; coni-espon-dent is pleased to imagine my "favorite tipple," and the gaseous compounds lie ' appears to patronise, and to whid^,b c ">« himself evidently bears some affinity, but to treat with the more important question of public works. I am well aWaro that certain of the Councillors originally contemplated the filling in of thelpmhoL ton road drain, and if "Pro Bono Publico " will again refer to the published. schedule of works, he will observe that 50 chains of road construction are -provided for in Kimbolton road, which I presume is intended to mean the filling in of the said drain and additional nietaL ling. Your correspondent objects to the construction of Warwick street ifrein Kimbolton road to Fergusson street, -f^d to Fergusson street from Warwick street, to Manchester street. And why? Is it because he opines that it would be (if constructed) a veritable " road to "ran," leading as it does, direct from the iniro of the saleyards to Roe's Hotel, and for this reason to remain "for over and a day" in its prestine beauty. If so .his. opinions are extremely cramped, narrowminded and selfish. I assert that the formation of these streets is not only -justifiable from a property-owner's point df view, but absolutely necessary as a public ,. convenience — a work to, which (with a veiy small outlay) will remove one of tiie. most objectionable eyesores in the centre ■-; of the town. As regards the question of sewerage I can only reiterate my previous assertion that such a scheme is nnneces-r sary in a small town like this, and would moreover be too expensive for us toeerry^ out. Let "Pro Bono Publico" edopt proper means for the pi-eaervatJdt. •or health in the way of cieanlinwi '*^m£[ ercise, and he will find himself none the . worse for want of sewerage works, lot; much better as far as pocket is eoneeraed. ' — lam, &c. f Battu*Axb.
