FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.
♦ Thursday, Febbuaby Bth. Present, His Worship the Mayor, Crs Fowles, Lewers, Worsfold, and Sherwill. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. From W. G. Hayhittle, complaining of the Ranger. From the Education department stating that the Act does not provide for the case of a library without income. From G. T. H. Lyne, calling attention to the culveit in North Street, which has not yet been made. From the secretary of the Anniversary Committee, asking the Council as a body to patronize the fete. From W. WhisTter, re Ranger. From the Poundkeeper, applying for certain fees. , The correspondence anent the Ranger was then considered. MrW. Whisker, who was in attendance, stated that the cattle were taken off his boundary, some of which was fenced and some unfenced. He considered the Ranger was actuated by unworthy motives. Cr Lewers regretted there was not a fuller attendance of Crs. He was of opinion that the Ranger showed partiality in the discharge of his duties. He believed the constable was still willing to do the work, and it was time a change was made. Or Sherwill agreed with Cr Lewers that there was partiality shown by the Ranger, and every day it was becoming worse. He would suggest that a committee be formed to consider the matter, and he would -give notice of motion to that effect for next meeting of the Council. Cr Sherwill proposed aud Cr Worsfold Seconded, That the olerk be instructed to write to the Anniversary Committee stating that the Counoil will be pleased to patronize the movement for celebrating the anniversary of the settlement ;— Carried. ( r Sherwill proposed, and Cr Lowers seconded, That the consideration of the charges against the Ranger be postponed to the next meeting of the Council. — Carried. Cr Lewers presented a petition of th J ratepayers, asking the Borough to obtain a £6000 loan. It was received, and its consideration postponed to the next meeting. The meeting then adjourned to tbe 22nd inst.
