MANCHESTER HIGHWAY BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held in the Board's office, Miftdieiter-street, on Saturday afternoon. Present — Wardens Macarthur, (chairman), Loudon, Bartholomew and Bailey. The minutes of fhe previous meeting were read and confirmed. A fetter was read from Mr Williamson stating that the settlers ia the Kiwitea Block were willing to contribute £25 towards improving the road between Mr Wilson's and Mr Shannon's properties, if the Board would contribute a like amount Resolved, bn the motion of Warden Bailey^ seconded by Warden Bartholomew, That the Board meetoa the first Saturday- in every month at 10 a.m. Resolved,. That the Engineer make an estimate of the cost of "stumping and cleaving Wilson's line, and report at next meeting. A letter was read from Mr Anderson, r« Hendersou's line, asking the Board to do a portion of the work. Front Mr Hoe. re public meeting to consider the advisableness of abolishing the county or otherwise. Resolved, on the motion of Warden Loudon, seconded by Warden Bartholomew, That the <. hairmau inform Mr Anderson that tlie Board is not in a position to expend- any money on this road at present, but if the settlers wish, the Board wifl gelr'th^road laid out under the Beads «»<! bridges Construction Act,andappiy to the Government for the money under the said Act. Resolved, on the ___otwm of Warden Xtoudctt, seconded by Warden BartholoanewiThat the Clerk call die meeting of ratepayers, as suggested by the committee, aad approved by the Manawatu Highway Board, to consider the advisableness of abolishing the County Council -or otherwise. The following tenders were received :— Stanway Road (at per yard)— T- Smith, -4s; J}. Younger aad A. Laing, 3s sd ; Berhendt,** 3d; Maaagb.2»lUd. The tender of Maaagh was accepted. Cemetery Roai-T- Smith, £90 195; Berhendt, £97 IBa-6d; J- Aitkeu, £96 18s ; A. Diamond, £84 10s; D. Younger aad A. Xaing £8t 18s; J. Cummings, £110 ss. The tender 'of A. Diamond was accepted. Aorangi Road — Berhendt, £35; J. Aitken, £26 ss; A. Diamond, £45; T. Smith, £28; »■ Younger, £22 19s 6d. The tender of D, Tounger was accepted. Accounts amounting to £93 8s fid were passed for pnyment. Theßeacd then adjourned.
