AN AMERICAN TORNADO.
The follow ing particulars are piven by the 'Frisco ost of a tornado that recently yisiteri lowa, a telegraphic account of which has b^en publised in the Fkildivq Star: — *n appeal has been made, to the puMie for aid for the sufferers by tbe rec nt tornado in lowa. The appeal states ihar the tornado made for iiself a path through the thickly-settled portion of the State, 150 miles lougr. and averiging half a mile wide. The names of 60 dead and 500 wounded have already been reported. Half the wounded bavft been grpvior.sly liurt,probably one-irth ofthem fatally Over iOO families had their homes totally destroyed-' At least 1,5U0 persons have been rendered homeless, and are now in absolve want. Tbe loss of property exceeds two, and mny reach three mil i>n dollars. Tn Grinnell alone thoioss will reach $400,000. It will take $100,000 to provide for the destitute. The storm was of electric origin. Itb fury is shown by the fact of its .taking up houses in its great spirals of funnels, and carrying them iOOOf't in tlm air. It also carried droves of cattle long distances thro agli the air.
