ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
A woman named Clarice, resident at V a kino, made an abortive attempt to commit suicide in the Maagaooe Stream, on Thursday afternoon. She was seen going into the water by Mr Mnnro, ,of the flax mills, who at once took her oat and brought her to his honse, where her clothing was dried, and she was composed by the kind attentions of Mrs Mudto. She was brought; into town by Mr Newman, and delivered over to the custody of Constable Price. She was at once brought up before Mr Macartbnr, J.P., to whom she sfo>ed her regret for the al--1 tempt. She had been much troubled m her mind by the death of her husband, and other fanv'ly mi&forlunes. As Mr M acarthnr was quite satisfied that bey family would be able for the future to> exercise a proper supervision over her, she was handed over to the enstody of her son, who at once conveyed her home to the Maliino.
