AN EXTRORDINARY DEATH.
An extraordinary fatality (says the Colonies and India) bus occurred ie British Indii, where an experienced traveller, having, as ie the custom in tropical couDtrie.*, taken a refreshing draught fiom the stem of one of the many water-ho'diug plants wbich thrive in the forests, qualified his cold refreshment by a " nip" of rum. Shortly afterward he died in excruciating agony, and a pobt-raortem ex- ! amination showed that bis internal organs were literally sealed up with india-rubber. He had imbibed the sap of miusops balata, the juice of which coagulates and hardens in alcohol, and the rum had had its usual effect in the poor man's stomach, with necessarily fatal results.
