THE MANCHESTER RIFLES.
The captain's parade c lied for Saturday night last to consider the new regulations was very well attended. After a few preliminary remarks from Lieut. Blackmore, in which he pointed out the salient features of the new regulations, and how they aflected the country corps, he was followed by Sub-Lieut. Booth, who showed the disadvantages the men would labor under if they disbanded now, and wished at any future time to re-join the forces. The Manchester Rifles stood high on the list, and they would lose their position, which they never could regain even under the most favorable circumstances if they did not carry on the corps. Their company, in the past compared favorably with any other one they had ever met, both as shots, and as being well up in their drill. The physique of the men was also a matter of common remark from officers from other places. Capt. Lethbridge then invited such as were desirous of re-joining under the new regulations to sign their names in the Secretary's roll book. Ail the men present complied with the request, the total number being 21. We may mention that under the new system the hours for attendance at drill for Government parades are fewer, and therefore will not press heavy on the most regular attendant. The Secretary (Sergt Nicholas) has notified in another column that the roll book will be at the office of this papi-r to receive the signatures of volunteers desirous of being added to the present strength of the company.
