Stevens' special for" best- • liked girl" «was awarded by voles of chil- < dren to Emily Pope. We should mention that the prizes ! for regular attendance were only awarded Jio scholars -who had attended the school « during the whole year. Mrs Halcombe presented in person two i extra prizes for good and .gentle conduct to Emma Bray and Fred Chamberlain. 'Two of the'-most- valuable prizes were - awarded to the boy and girl who were the ; most popular with their schoolmates, and -.a ballot taken among the scholars resulted j in the boys electing George Gordon, and i the ett'ls Emily Pope. Gordon received ■■■ a large majority of votes, but there was a - very dose contest among the girls, and as JlKate Rutherford obtained only a vote or "two short of the highest .number, Mrs 'Halcombe presented her with a second " extra prize for popularity. Mr Kirton 'presented a special price for -; the boy -who had obtained the fewest * marks in "the highest examination, and i the lot, singularly enough, fell to the boy, got the highest numberof votes for popularity,, viz., George Gordon. Mr Henry Worsfold presented a very "5 handsome -prize for the best conducted '< boy in the school, and Robert Hall was : the recipient* this being the second time ; a similar honor has been conferred upon i the same boy.
