At eleven o'clock last night the Wakatipu's lights showed rounding Point Halsweli, where Captain Wheeler burned a blue .light and sent up a xocket, also slowing off for a short time. The Premier went on beard in the Naval Brigade cutter, and the Wakatipu then steamed slowly ujp to the wharf, where aTery large crowd had assembled. At .about twemy minutes to 12 she made fast, and hearty cheers were given for the new Governor. The Mayor of Well ngton, the Hon. W. Johnston, the Hon. Mr Bryce, and other gentlemen soon boarded the steamer. After a sho t interval the Premier informed the Mayor that His Excellency! would remain on -board all night, and would gladly fall in with the arrange- ! ments made for his landing officially at 2 : o'clock this afternoon. : Later. ; It is expected there wiU be an enormous assemblage to witness the ceremony ©f the landing of His Excellence All the shipping in the hai&our is gaily 4l .sco rated with bunting, and the principal places of business are flying bunting. • The following address will be .presented to His Excellency, Lady Jervois, and their family, welcoming them ito New Zealand, by the Mayor and Coun- i cillors present :•—" Aware, as we are, of . the valuable and .distinguished services you have rendered in other portions of • Her Majesty's dominions, and of the high estimation in which you have been held while acting as Her Majesty'sarepresen-; tative in other important colonies, we, have great pleasure in seeing you assume : governorship of New Zealand." Theaddres concludes thus-- "Wo be to assure Your Excellency that you may ever confidently rely on the citizens of Wellington being ready to assist your endeavors for maintaining the peace, order, and good government*?! the .colony, and promoting the welfare of the same.
