A committee was appointed to confer with the c jngregation as to his successor. Further deficiencies have been discovered in the Kaipoi municipal accounts. All the books relating to the dog-tax account are missing, except one, which shews receipts to the amount of £46 10s for the first half of 1882, while the cash book and ledger give receipts for that period at only £37. Wellington, This Day. A controversy is going on lespecting the healing powers of Mr Stevens. One writer says: "Be he (Mr Stevens) what he may, the relief from suffering for a fortnight, which has never been secured before, is someting to be thankful for, and she (the patient) has never been so well for many many years." The Supreme Court Criminal Sittings opened this morning. The Judge's charge to the Grand Jury lasted only 2 minutes. He congratulated them on the lightness of calendar, there being none of serious character. A. true bill was found against Henry Freeman for housebreaking. True bills were found against Sarah Paraell, wounding; Peter Walsh, attempted larceny and Julia O'Bierne, attempted suicide. No bill was found agaias Annie alias Mary Brown, larceny from the person. Manail, Jan. 17. Daniel Crowley, a bush settler, is reported to have had his house and a large quantity of rye grass seed burnt through a bush fire here to-riay. Mr Fitzgerald has also lost a quantity of seed.
