"BOMBASTES FURICSO."

The announcement that " Bombustes Furioso" would be put on the hoards k'st night had the effect of filling the hall almost to overflowing. At an early hour the whole of the front seats were filled, and later on the second seats were closely packed by a somewhat nony but appreciative audience, who testified to their enjoyment by "fearful and wonderful" stampings, catcalls, &c, occasionally rendering the voices of the performers inaudible even to those of the audience who were seated immediately in front. A certain amount of latitude is always allowed to the pit on occasions like Boxing Night, and full advantage was taken of it. The performance was opened by a brilliant overture played by Mrs E. H. Wright in her usual effective style. The curtain was then raised for " ' hmtmas Eve in a watch house." The parts were ably taken by Messrs Wright, Dawson, and Jackson, and was fairly received by the audience at the back, who occasionally expressed an amount of impatience for the piece de resistance, Bombastes to be produced. Although the dialogue was crisp and full of good points, the continued noise prevented many of them from being heard, and as the piece was unassisted by scenic effect, the audience had nothing more than the title to inform them as to what the whole thing was about. However, the gentlemen made the best of it under the circumstances, and brought it to a happy conclusion. After a brief interval Mr Sherwill danced the Highland Fling in a style and manner that fairly brought down the house, and put the audience in a good humour for the rest of the evening. Showers of bouquets, which he gracefully acknowledged, marked the appreciation of the fair sex. An enthusiastic encore brought the performer on the stage again. The dress and appointments were very complete and satisfied several very critical sons of gael who were among the spectators. When the opening scene of " Borabastes Furioso" commenced the applause was very hearty and put the actors en rapport with the audience. Place aux dames, the charming Distaffina, was represented by Mr Dawson, and the part was carefully played. The dress was most appropriate, and although not too elaborate was well suited to display the charms of the lady to perfection. Her songs were well rendered and discovered the fact that accastonally she possessed the sweet I'oicc of a gifted singer. Mr Jackson, issisled by his war steed (Mr Golding's ' Neddy,") was quite ecjunl to the calls wide on his histronie powers, and acted lis part with his usual care and ability VI r E. H. Wright, as buzfuz, delighted he audience, his make up was excepional, and he appeared " to the mariner >orn." !he king (Mr Seaton) was well snacted, and showed every sign of careful )reparation. The part in itself is not a eiy important one, but Mr Seaton made t a success. We congratulate the Feildng amateurs on the dramatic ability lispl.iyed by the members. At the contusion of the performance Mr Wright hnnked the audience for their attendnee. He announced that another ntertainment would shortly be given for charitable object, under distinguished >:>tron;ige.
