FEILDING BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of he ou'icil was. held in the Council ■ ffice on Thursday evening last. Present -the .Mayr elect (in the chair)", .Cjfs Worst'old, Thompson, iliggin, Good behere, llutlierf. rd. and Sherwill. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. 1 COKKESFONDENCE. From Mr Haultain, Clerk of the Li ending Court, re the appointment of a Returning Officer for the election ot the Licensing Committee and Presiding Officer for the nominations. From Mr Rotheram, District Railway Manager, re the clearing of the flax, «&c. f i from the railway reserve, stating th t lie,. would personally interview Mr . ill oh' the matter. The report of tiie Finance Committee was read. Cr Lethbridge reported that the railway reserve had been leased to' Mr Stevens, postmaster, and was to be cleared forthwith. Resolved, on the motion of Cr ThompJ son, seconded by Cr Rutherford that the report of the Finance Committee be? adapted. * - Rebolved, on t h e motion of Cr G-oodbe-here, seconded by Cr Sherwill, that the sum of 14s 6d, paid b} r the pound keeper; as surplus for the sale of cattle, Sec, be refunded to him, on the ground that the C uncil has no right to receive it. ? ; Resolved, on the motion of Cr Sfier> will, seconded by Cr Thompson, that Mr Hill, Town Clerk, be appointed Returning Officer in connection with the election of the Licensing Committee, and Presiding Officer for taking the poll of ratepayers, re increase or otherwise of licenses, and tliat his fees be 2 guineas when a poll .is taken, and 1 guinea when candidates are declared elected on day of nominal tion. . Resolved, on the motion of Cr Sherwill,. seconded, by Cr Worsfold, that the Clerk j be instructed to have notices printed in Euglish and Maori, and placed in conspicuous places, to the effe ' that all persons carrying on the business of hawkers, or plying vehicles for hire withit i c Borough without a license will be prosecuted according to law." Resolved, on the motion of Cr ITiggin, seconded by Cr Sherwill, t' at the Council meet again on Wednesday, the 20th inst. . he Council then adjourned.
Guiteau's skull has been stolen from the CT.S. Army Medical Museum at Washington, where it was exhibited. There is no clue to its whereabouts. It is stated that the German Emperor has complimented Bir Gaivet Wolseley on the success of his st.atigy and the ««ti«f.ctory results of the campaign ia Egypt.
