THE CLERK TO THE COURT.

♦ The meeting last night showed conclusively that the Justices of the Peace, and the storekeepers and settlers of the Manchester Block are determined to force

tlieir claims on the Ministry, and compel them to grant by continued solicitation their very reasonable request that a resident rlerk to the Court be appointed at Feilding. It was a matter for congratulation to observe the unanimity that prevailed among the gentlemen who composed the meeting last night. We sincerely hope to see a similar unanimity of feeling displayed when the interests of the settlement are again in question. We think the meeting acted wisely in appointing the Mayor elect, Mr F. Y. Lethbridge, and Mr Fry as delegates t > proceed to Wellington, with the view of urging on the Minister of Justice our indisputable right to a resident Clerk to the Bench, and we trust their mission will be a successful one. Should failure, however, attend the efforts of our delegates, Mr Leweks' suggestion might be adopted, that the Palmerston Clerk be compelled to visit Feilding every second day. This would most certainly be an improvement on the idiotic system that obtains at present, and would partially remove tne waste of time, pecuniary loss, and general inconvenience and annoyance the residents of the Manchester Block are now being subjected to.
